Access for every veteran and family
Accessibility at VA Companion
VA Companion is committed to making its public website usable by people with disabilities across keyboard, touch, magnification, and assistive-technology workflows.
Conformance: WCAG 2.2 Level AA
Our commitment
As of August 20, 2026, the VA Companion-owned public web pages and public tool workflows identified below conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. This is a self-evaluated conformance statement, not a certification by W3C or a government agency.
When we find an accessibility issue in a VA Companion-owned experience, we prioritize practical access to the affected information or service and then correct the underlying problem.
Conformance scope
Date of claim: August 20, 2026
Standard and level: Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA.
Pages covered: VA Companion-owned public pages and public tool workflows served from https://vacompanion.us/, including their responsive desktop and mobile presentations.
Outside this statement: The private administration workspace, separately installed Windows desktop application, browser extensions, third-party websites reached through links, and externally supplied flyers or documents.
Technologies relied upon: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, WAI-ARIA, and VA Companion-authored PDF where applicable.
Measures we take
- Use semantic headings, landmarks, labels, status messages, and meaningful link text.
- Support keyboard navigation, visible focus, skip links, and predictable dialog behavior.
- Design for text zoom, mobile reflow, high-contrast text, and touch targets that remain usable without precise movement.
- Respect reduced-motion preferences and avoid motion that is required to understand or operate a tool.
- Check key public workflows with automated tests plus manual keyboard, responsive-layout, and assistive-technology review.
Content outside the scope
Some official-source pages, third-party services, user-submitted event flyers, and imported PDF documents are not authored or controlled by VA Companion and are not included in this conformance statement. Their accessibility can vary. We provide useful text details and source links alongside those assets whenever the source information allows.
The separately installed Windows desktop application and browser extensions have their own interfaces and release cycles. This statement applies only to the VA Companion-owned public website pages and workflows described above.
Assessment and review
Our review includes automated browser checks and manual testing of keyboard access, focus visibility, headings and landmarks, form labels, dialogs, zoom and reflow, reduced motion, color contrast, target size, and printed output where printing is part of the feature.
